Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 284 event the $100,000 bonus award winners were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the competitive co-main event battle between Diego Ferreira and Billy Quarantillo.
Quarantillo set out his stall to apply constant pressure from the opening bell, but it was Ferreira who was getting the better of the striking exchanges early, and his ability to find a home for his right hand became a recurring theme over the course of three rounds that would help him to emerge with a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
Main event winner Quillan Salkilld earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after a stand-out submission win over Mateusz Gamrot.
Salkilld had been expected to give Gamrot his biggest challenge on the feet, and he did sting him early with a crisp jab as he was pressing forward. However, the action soon spilled onto the mat as Gamrot worked on a leg lock, but Salkilld patiently got his limb free and soon after landed a takedown of his own. Salkilld then showed off his grappling ability to secure the back and work for a fight-ending rear-naked choke that will take his career to the next level.
Also earning a performance bonus was Ty Miller, who was able to shake off Billy Ray Goff’s repeated attempts to turn this fight into a grinding clinch and takedown battle and then punish him with accurate combination work. as the fight wore on the accumulated damage was really starting to take an effect, leading to Miller dropping Goff in the second round. Goff showed heart to battle on, but he was becoming a punching bag by the end of that stanza as his eyes started to swell up.
Even Goff’s own corner seemed to have run out of ideas of how to turn things around as they advised him to just circle and not engage in the final round, but Miller went on to land a couple more punches to put him down and seal a dominant TKO victory.
