Fight Report

Alex Oliveira defeats Piotr Hallmann by KO at 0.51mins of Rd3

Wow, what a finish from Oliveira here. His striking had looked good in the opening round, opening a cut to Hallman’s face in the opening minute and continuing to dominate from there as punches landed with regularity. However, Hallmann looked to change things up in the second round and used his wrestling advantage to work his way back into the fight. That left all to play for in the third round, but Oliveira ensured they weren’t going to a decision as he landed a blistering right hook that KO’d Hallmann in devastating fashion.

Rashid Magomedov defeats Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Magomedov was the clear winner in this fight between two talented fighters on the brink of breaking into the top 15. Burns started promisingly with early takedowns, but Magomedov found a way back to his feet and from then on proved difficult to get back down again. That was very unfortunate for Burns as it became apparent as the round went on that Magomedov was clearly the better striker and was landing crisp, accurate counter punches and hard body kicks. In the second round Magomedov staggered Burns with a right hand, but remained patient rather than going in for the kill even with his opponent clearly on wobbled legs. Not long after he did drop Burns with another right, but the Brazilian showed heart and survived. Burns had his legs back under him in the third round, but was never able to find a way to get back into the fight, while Magomedov seemed content to just pick his shots and cruise to a decision victory.

Corey Anderson defeats Fabio Maldonado by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)

Anderson utilized his wrestling advantage to land multiple takedowns against Maldonado tonight and wore him down in the clinch too, but it’s to his credit that he also got the better of Maldonado at striking range as well en-route to a clean sweep on the scorecards.
