Chris Weidman vs. Bruno Silva Targeted For UFC Fight Night 239

Chris Weidman has another fight in the works, this time against Bruno Silva at UFC Fight Night 239 in New Jersey on March 30th.

The 39-year-old former middleweight champion had a well-documented two-year absence from the sport due to the broken leg he suffered just 17 seconds into his fight with Uriah Hall back in 2021, but he finally made his return to action against Brad Tavares at UFC 292 in August of last year.

However, his comeback fight didn’t go according to plan, with Tavares mercilessly kicking his leg throughout the fight on his way to a convincing unanimous decision victory. That marked Weidman’s 7th loss in his last 9 fights, and many felt like that signalled time for him to hang up his gloves.

Instead he returns against the 34-year-old Silva, who is struggling for form too, having lost 4 of his last 5 fights in the Octagon. As it happens, Silva’s only win during that run was a TKO victory over the aforementioned Brad Tavares, but that was sandwiched inbetween losses to the likes of Alex Pereira, Gerald Meerschaert, Brendan Allen and most recently Sharabutdin Magomedov.

Weidman vs. Silva joins a UFC Fight Night 239 card that so far also includes the likes of Erin Blanchfield vs. Manon Fiorot and Virna Jandibora vs. Loopy Godinez.
