Virna Jandiroba moved one step closer to a strawweight title shot with an armbar submission victory over Amanda Lemos tonight at UFC On ESPN 60.

Round One:

The women’s strawweight main event is underway in Las Vegas.

Cautious start here, but then 40 seconds in Jandiroba drives into a takedown attempt and gets Lemos down. however Lemos is immediately countering by working on a guillotine choke here.

Jandiroba is staying patient though and then breaks free, leaving her to settle into tight control on top in half-guard.

They gradually work over towards the cage and then Lemos does very well to reverse on top. There’s a scramble and Lemos again ends up on top. However Jandiroba works for a kneebar and Lemos counters with a leg lock too. Frenetic ground action here that ends up with both rising back to the feet.

Jandiroba still clinched up here and works around to the back. A little blood trickling from Jandiroba’s right eye late in this fight round as she opts to just stay hold this position without looking to progress or strike.

Round Two:

Jandiroba throws a few punches that miss, but Jandiroba counters with an uppercut. A couple of straight punches from Lemos miss the target.

Jandiroba drives into the clinch against the cage. Lemos trying to stay upright. Jandiroba brings her down, but it’s a bit of a 50/50 position on the mat. Lemos stands back up, but Jandiroba still has hold of a single-leg.

A couple of punches from Jandiroba. She tries to work the takedown, but Lemos ends up on top. There’s a scramble and Jandiroba ends up underneath while taking Lemos’ back in the center of the Octagon. Jandiroba gets her body triangle in and is now looking to find the opening for a rear-naked choke. Lemos hand-fighting though.

Jandiroba gets her arm in, but it’s not quite under the chin. Nonetheless she decides to crank on it. Lemos staying as calm as she can under the circumstances and then gets free of that.

However Jandiroba then switches slickly to an armbar. Again Lemos isn’t giving up easily as she tries to escape, but it’s not going to happen this time and she’s forced to tap out at 4.48mins of the 2nd round!
