Rory “Aries” Macdonald
Rory has been poised for greatness for a long time. Out of the shadow of his training partner, the now retired Georges St. Pierre, Rory has been a wrecking ball in most of, but not all of his fights. Usually when placed in a top position on a card, in a high profile fight, Rory chooses to out point his opponent, rather than his usual method of cold decimation. He took the ‘jab and stay on the outside’ approach against Demian Mia, Robbie Lawler, and Jake Ellenberger. Sometimes it paid off, but when it mattered most it didn’t work and he lost his title shot to Robbie Lawler. Rory needs to remember how good in the pocket he is. His beautiful overhand against Mike Pyle and his equally stunning uppercut of Tarec Saffiedine show the fans he might actually be able to hang with Lawler if they rematch. His foot work is great and his only TKO loss is to Carlos Condit which is nothing to be ashamed of. He can’t out point the sheer determination of either Johny Hendricks or Robbie Lawler, they will find a way to win if they are down. A confident Rory is a dangerous Rory. If he goes for that calculated finish he is known for, if he brings it all to the table, he can achieve greatness and possibly win the title next year.
