Charlie “the Boston Strangler” Rosa
Taking a fight on two weeks notice is risky, taking the same fight against a 30 fight veteran is dangerous. The same fight against the same fighter, except he is ranked number eleven, could be the worst decision or the greatest opportunity a fighter can make. Charlie Rosa rose to the occasion and looked amazing in his loss to Dennis Siver. The exchanges on the ground were incredible. It looks like Denis Siver had been working on his ground game, with improved wrestling and both submission offense and defense. I didn’t expect Siver to look that good on the ground, but Charlie Rosa was keeping pace the whole time threatening with his own submissions and a perfect defense for that early arm triangle. Siver was winning the stand up battle but Rosa was holding his own. If he had time to watch tape on Dennis Siver the striking exchanges may have looked a lot different. On the feet he not only showed versatility, he showed heart and grit. Late in the third round Rosa took a spinning back kick flush to the body but never gave up and was never finished. Taking this experience with him into his next fight against lower ranked opponents he could be set to do well in 2015.
