UFC 273 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 273 event in Florida the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the absolute war between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns on the pay-per-view line-up.

This had always been one of the most eagerly awaited bouts on the card, but it proved to be even better and closer than many had expected, as Burns gave as good as he got on the feet.

By mid-way through the second round the action was so fast and furious that both men were bloodied, looked weary, but were still fighting with everything they had. Then by the final bell both had been dropped, dazed and yet were still swinging for the fences. It’s unfortunate that someone had to lose given how much they’d put into it, but in the end Chimaev’s unbeaten record remains intact via unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Alexander Volkanovski earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after he handed down a dominant performance against ‘The Korean Zombie’, rocking him multiple times on the feet before being awarded a fourth round TKO victory.

Veteran heavyweight Aleksei Oleink also picked up a performance bonus after he got back to winning ways with a first round submission victory against Jared Vanderaa.

A new twist in the bonus structure was that three fighters were also awarded Bitcoin bonuses by fans, courtesy of the UFC’s deal with crypto.com:

1) Khamzat Chimaev ($30,000 in Bitcoin)
2) Alexander Volkanovski ($20,000 in Bitcoin)
3) Petr Yan ($10,000 in Bitcoin)
