Demian Maia vs Chael Sonnen, UFC 95
Demian Maia was considered one of the world’s leading Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylists when he joined the UFC, and in his first few fights he left little room for doubt about it, as Chael Sonnen can testify.
Leading into the fight Maia had won his first four fights in the UFC by way of submission, and unfortunately for Sonnen in less than three minutes he would prove to be the Brazilian’s fifth victim.
Sonnen was essentially manhandled as Maia opted for the belly to belly suplex to take him to the mat, somehow managing to land straight into mount with the triangle choke attempt already underway. He then rolled over, tightened it up and that was that, earning Maia his fourth ‘Submission Of The Night’ bonus in the process.
