UFC interim heavyweight champion has a new angle of attack as he tries to work his way into a unified title showdown with Jon Jones by comparing Stipe Miocic to current U.S. president Joe Biden.
Of course the 81-year-old Biden recently announced he’d be stepping down from his campaign to be re-elected in November due to relentless pressure on him to call it quits due to his age, and Aspinall is now suggesting that the 41-year-old Miocic needs to follow suit.
“Get Stipe out of there,” Aspinall said during an interview with TNT Sports. “Let’s be honest, the guy is 43-years old. He’s had a four-year layoff, and his last fight was a knockout loss.
“Granted, he’s an absolute legend in the sport. He’s the best heavyweight ever, like statistically. He’s the best heavyweight ever, but the guy needs to be pulled out of the race. The guy needs to be Joe Biden’d. He’s too old.
“No one is interested anymore,” Aspinall added. “And I respect Stipe a lot. Pull him out. Stick me in. It is right. Get Joe Biden out of there. Stick me in.”
The 31-year-old Aspinall certainly strengthened his case when he KO’d Curtis Blaydes in just 60 seconds last month to defend the interim belt that he won last November by KO’ing Sergei Pavlovich in 69 seconds.
As such there’s clearly far more momentum and interest in Aspinall fighting Jones at this stage than Miocic, who has been out of action for well over three years since being KO’d by Francis Ngannou in 2021.
However, Jones is adamant that Miocic is the fight he wants and will have the most impact on his legacy, and Dana White has also stuck to his guns that it’s the fight that will happen next, with the rumor being that it’s earmarked to headline UFC 309 on November 16th.
