Darren Till has been targeted to fight Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC Fight Night 189 on April 10th at a location still to be confirmed.
Till fought just once in 2020, suffering decision loss in a five-rounder against Robert Whittaker last July. That had been Till’s second fight at middleweight, having previously earned a split decision win over Kelvin Gastelum in 2019.
Once a title contender at welterweight, Till had moved up to 185lbs after struggles making weight at 170lbs together with having suffered back-to-back losses against Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, the latter being a brutal KO loss.
Despite his latest loss, the 28-year-old still holds the No.4 contender spot at middleweight, one place above Marvin Vettori, who has been in fine form over the past couple of years, racking up four wins in a row inside the Octagon.
That run began with decision wins over Cezar Ferreira and Andrew Sanchez in 2019, while he’s gone on to submit karl Roberson and beat Jack Hermansson on the scorecards in the past 12 months.
While not official yet, Till vs. Vettori is expected to take headline duties at UFC Fight Night 189, which also features the likes of Mackenzie Dern vs. Nina Ansaroff and Sam Alvey vs. Zak Cummings.
