A heavyweight fight between Junior dos Santos and Curtis Blaydes has been scheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 166 in North Carolina on January 25th.
Dos Santos had originally been scheduled to headline last weeks UFC: Moscow event opposite Alexander Volkov, but he had to pull out on a few weeks notice and Greg Hardy stepped in to replace him instead.
JDS is coming off a first round TKO loss to Francis Ngannou back In June, which ended a three-fight winning streak for the former champion.
Prior to that 71 second loss dos Santos had earned a decision win over Blagoy Ivanov and followed it up with TKO stoppages against both Tai Tuivasa and then Derrick Lewis.
Now JDS will go up against Blaydes, who has also been TKO’d in just 45 seconds against Ngannou last year (the second time he’s been stopped by ‘The Predator’), but he’s since rebounded with a decision victory over Justin Willis followed by TKO’ing Shamil Abdurakhimov.
JDS vs. Blaydes will headline a UFC Fight Night 166 card that is also expected to feature Frankie Edgar in his bantamweight debut against Cory Sandhagen, which may well serve as the co-main event that evening during the UFC’s first ever visit to Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina.
