A women’s bantamweight fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana will headline an as-yet unnamed UFC event on August 1st at a destination still to be confirmed.
For former bantamweight champion Holm, this will be her second fight of the year so far, having got off to a successful start with a uananimous decision victory in a rematch with Raquel Pennington back in January.
Prior to that Holm had attempted to reclaim the title against Amanda Nunes, but lost out via a head kick TKO.
In total, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ has only won three of her last eight fights after an historic title-winning KO victory over Ronda Rousey back in 2015, but the 38-year-old will now be looking to string together two-wins in a row for the first time since that period.
As for Aldana, she is coming off back-to-back wins, beginning with a unanimous decision victory over Vanessa Melo, followed by an impressive KO stoppage of Ketlen Veira late last year.
Aldana has now compiled five wins from her past six fights, and as such is currently ranked No.5 in the 135lb ranks, three places above Holm, who is at No.8.
Holm vs. Aldana will top the bill at an August 1st card that will also see Derek Brunson fight Edmen Shabazyan.
