UFC have reportedly scrapped plans to host a Fight Night event on January 30th.
After the Christmas break the promotion intends to hit the ground running with three events in 8 days on Fight Island, including UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor II, and had initially planned to then return to Las Vegas for UFC Fight Night 186 on the 30th of January.
The event had been earmarked to include fights including Kelvin Gastelum vs. Ian Heinisch and Roxanne Modafferi vs. Viviane Araujo, but the UFC brass have now decided against going ahead with the event and so those bouts and others are now being reassigned.
As such, Gastelum vs. Heinisch has now been pushed back to UFC 258, while Modafferi vs. Aruajo comes forward to UFC Fight Night 185.
As things stand, January 30th is now the only free Saturday in the UFC’s first quarter diary, with every other weekend from January 16th onwards up until the end of March currently scheduled to have an event from the promotion as they continue their aggressive push to deliver more shows than ever before, despite the ever-present threat from Coronavirus.
Whether this cancelled event is the first sign of a change in thinking or just a one-off remains to be seen.
