Dan Hooker Takes Short Notice Fight With Islam Makhachev At UFC 267

After Islam Makhachev’s bout with Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 267 fell through in the past week, Dan Hooker has now stepped in on short notice to fight him instead.

Hooker is less than a week removed from a unanimous decision win over Nasrat Haqparast at UFC 266 that took him to No.6 on the lightweight rankings.

Now he’s going to be heading straight back into action in a month’s time on October 30th at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi in a bid to break into the top 5 and start building a case for title contention.

That will be no easy task however as Makhachev is riding an eight-fight winning streak in the Octagon, having previously defeated the likes of Thiago Moises, Drew Dober, Gleison Tibau and Nik Lentz.

Makhachev also has the backing of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who has tipped him to one day become champion, and it seems that the 30-year-old is finally getting the kind of match-ups that could lead him to that point.

Makhachev vs. Hooker joins a UFC 267 card that will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira, while an interim bantamweight title bout between Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen is also scheduled for the show.
