A welterweight fight between Vicente Luque and Michael Chiesa has been announced for UFC 265’s main card on August 7th at a destination still to be confirmed.
Luque is currently ranked No.5 in the division after having racked up three wins in a row over the past year.
That run began with a TKO stoppage of Niko Price, followed just a couple of months later by a KO finish of Randy Brown, while the icing on the cake was submitting Tyron Woodley with a brabo choke back in March.
In total Luque has now won nine of his last ten fights in the Octagon, with his only loss during that period coming against Stephen Thompson by decision back in November of 2019.
Chiesa has also been on an excellent run since moving up to 170lbs at the tail-end of 2018, stringing together a four-fight unbeaten stretch.
It all began with a submission stoppage of Carlos Condit, and since then he’s continued to look the part in the weight class with unanimous decision victories over Diego Sanchez, Rafael dos Anjos and most recently Neil Magny to climb up to No.6 in the rankings.
Luque vs. Chiesa joins a UFC 265 card that will feature double-champ Amanda Nunes dropping back to bantamweight to defend the title against Julianna Pena, while Jose Aldo vs. Pedro Munhoz and Tecia Torres vs. Angela Hill are also confirmed for the event.
