There will be high stakes for the flyweight contestants on the newly announced 24th season of The Ultimate Fighter, as the winner will get an immediate title shot in the division, which is currently ruled by dominant champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson.
In a change from the usual format, the flyweight final will take place on the last episode of the season, with the ‘TUF 24 Finale’ event then being used to play host to the title fight between the champion and TUF winner.
It remains to be seen if current champion Johnson will still hold the belt at that stage as he’s currently scheduled to fight Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of UFC 197 later this month.
In another change to the standard format for the long-running reality show, there will be no season-long coaches for the 24th series.
Instead the UFC said in a press release that, “world-class coaches, guest coaches, and former opponents of the current champion will be brought in throughout the season to break down film and help the contestants tailor their training to a game plan designed to help them become the next UFC champion.”
Filming for the season is scheduled to being on June 31st, with the premiere then lined up for August 31st on FOX Sports 1.
